My confidence was more than just rattled; it was shaken to the core. The knock on the door scared me and what happened through the rest of the day left me completely shattered. Life was about to take a nasty turn, and I had no way to know if my husband and I would be able to overcome it.
As time passed, I came to know the full truth of what had happened. There had been so many lies, and so much deceit; a person can only run so long before that all catches up. That was the day I learned the truth, and it was the day my marriage and my confidence took a major hit.
I was thrust into a situation that I wanted out of, but there was no easy escape. Instead, there were life-altering choices to make.
How can you make those major life choices when you are consumed by fear?
Can you muster the confidence to move forward in life when you feel that you are constantly being beaten down by the realities of your situation?
How to Choose Confidence – Even When You’re Scared
Understand Your Choices
Life is filled with choices. When we get hurt, for example, do we stay to fight, or do we cut and run? I’m not here to judge; I’ve had to make this choice and it’s excruciating when neither option brings relief from the pain.
But the fact is, we have choices.
We even have the choice to not make a choice. However, I’d suggest that not making a choice is actually a choice.
So it is with our confidence.
We have the choice to choose to be confident, or not to be confident. But we are the one who has to make the choice. If we don’t actively choose confidence, we are choosing to let our situations determine our feelings.
Prayer and Bible Study
Have you seen War Room? When my situation was at its worst, I had to retreat to my quiet space and pray. I often tell people that I had it out with the Lord. Why? Because He created my heart and ultimately knows it best.
There would be times when I was alone in my car or in my house and I would just start reminding the Lord of the many promises in His Word. Sometimes these prayers were from the quiet of my heart, but other times they were full of emotion because in prayer I found my confidence.
We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
Our Heavenly Father is a loving Father who longs for a relationship with us. He created our hearts, our emotions, every tiny detail of our life. Who better to understand us in the fullness of our struggles and emotions than the One who created us?
I also went back to some of the passages in the Bible that my heart knew full well. These verses and passages are almost-tangible reminders of God’s love for me. They are passages He has used in my life again and again. I lived in these passages, remembering His goodness and the many ways He was faithful before.
Friends, our God does not change! It is His truth and His Word that can teach us how to choose confidence.

Mentoring and Encouragement
I shared about a Women of Faith conference that I was able to attend, and what the Lord showed me. This was the encouragement I needed as I stand for redemption.
I also had the benefit of a circle of Christian women in the blogging world. They came alongside and offered encouragement as most of the rest of the world walked out. Their prayers helped me to remain confident in the Lord, no matter what was happening around me.
You can find mentoring and encouragement at a church, in a women’s Bible study, or even with a Christian counselor. It’s essential to establish a support system with Christian women.
You can join us in the Facebook group for wives who are standing for their marriages. Simply click HERE to fill out the short Google doc to be a part of our group.
I hope that you are ready to choose confidence! It will make a tremendous difference in your walk with the Lord!
