This week at The Loft, we’re talking about our favorite books. I find it hard to choose a favorite book…there, I said it. So, instead, I’m going to share some of the ones I’m currently reading and some of my all-time most-read books. These will have to serve as my favorite books, even if they’re only my current favorite books.
Books I’m Currently Reading:
Trusting God - by Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland. I’m reading through this book with a few ladies who are friends and family. It’s kind of fun to be reading through a book with others who are hundreds of miles apart!
In the Grip of Grace - by Max Lucado
You’ll Get Through This - also by Max Lucado. I love how his books are so packed with truth, yet so easy to read and understand!
The First Drop of Rain - by Leslie Parrott
An Angel, a Miracle or Simply God at Work? - by David J. Smith (my dad!) - This is such an easy read, and a great look at how God has worked in miraculous ways, and in the mundane aspects of life. (To see the book, click the title and the link will take you to where you can scroll down just a little and view the book. Just so you know, this is not an affiliate link; I will not receive any proceeds if you buy the book. It’s just a great book!)
The Last Book I Read:
Devotion - by Marianne Evans - This book had so many special truths that God had just for me, and the book came at a time when I really needed it. I’m grateful for the gift of this book every day!
Some of My Most-Read Books:
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Great Gatsby
Anne of Green Gables - love the books and the movies!
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - yes, a children’s book.
Anything by Dr. Seuss
Any Curious George book
Any book in the Fancy Nancy series or the Pinkalicious series - yes, I’m mom to a young girl. But I love these books, too!
Anything by Sandra Boynton (children’s board books, especially)
Goodnight, Moon
Anything related to Peter Rabbit
The Velveteen Rabbit
Hi, I’m Rebekah, and I’m a children’s-book-a-holic…. I love great literature and I think kids’ books - quality kids’ books - are the best way to grow life-long readers!
But, I know, you’d really like to know my all-time,
most-favorite book…ok.
The Bible…it really is my favorite. You can have all the others - they bring wisdom, quality time with family, but if I have to pick just one, I’ll pick the Bible - every single time. I read a quote somewhere that says, “The Bible is the only book whose author is always with you when you read it.” How true!
I’m linking up at The Loft this week, where we’re sharing about our favorite books. Pop over and join us - and if you don’t blog, that’s ok, too! Leave us your favorite books in the comments! I’d love to hear what you like to read!

I love the format of your post!
I have a soft spot for Max Lucado
I also love Pinkalicious and Fancy Nancy books <3
And I super love Goodnight, Moon! Kids books rock socks.
And I loved this thought: "“The Bible is the only book whose author is always with you when you read it." I hadn't heard that before tonight!
Thanks for sharing!

Kids books really are great!
I think I saw that quote on Pinterest, or on some graphic that went through my news feed on Facebook. It’s stuck with me ever since!
Thanks for joining us at The Loft!

Becky, I love how you structured your post. There were so many other books I could have listed, but ran out of time with the weekend’s activities and tending to my Mother. Yes, yes, yes on Dr. Seuss books. I also love the Velveteen Rabbit, and Max Lucado’s writing are wonderful. Thanks for sharing you lists. Bless you, my friend.

There are so many great books out there…oh, to have some uninterrupted time to read - to just read!
I’m actually hoping to do that this weekend. I don’t read nearly enough as I’d like to, but I’m trying to change that. Between my kids, hours of piano practice to listen to each day (my kids’, not mine!), and all the other things there are to do, reading often takes a back seat. I’m craving some quality book time!
Have a great day, dear friend!!

Hello Rebekah,
LOVE the layout of your post, love the pictures, love, love everything about your blog. You do a wonderful job! I too love children’s books, we have so many from over the years. I dare not part with them, we are saving them for the grandchildren! We have some of my husband’s children’s books and it is precious to see some of them signed by Aunt so and so, or mom and dad with the year. We have carried on that tradition with our kids. Books were always a part of their birthday and Christmas gifts and we ask the giver to sign a note on the inside cover. Enough of me! I hope I can eventually turn my blog into something more beautiful like yours. I am a newbie and I am learning.

Hi Kate! Yes, yes, yes to all your wonderful comments about books! I love our books that are signed from friends or family. Lol - my husband knows that unless a book is fatally damaged, or unless we’re donating it to a special friend or family member, the books will stay with us!
As for the blog - thank you! I don’t know a lot either, lol. Let’s see - it’s a self-hosted WordPress blog, meaning I pay for the domain name and the hosting. The “theme” (colors, layout, etc) is called Glitter and Lace from Studio Press. I paid for someone else to set it up and put it all together for me because I don’t have a clue how to do that kind of thing. So in reality, I don’t know a whole lot more than you do.
I used a site called Blogelina to put it all together for me. She did a great job! Thank you, Kate, for your kind words, and I’m glad we share a love of children’s books…they really are so special!

Oh, I agree about the children’s books. I love me some little kids reads!! My Little Bit wants to read the Pinkalicious books but we can’t get them here. But we can get Captain Underpants, which I despise. Lord help us.

I just sent you a separate message…
I, too, despise Captain Underpants. I really do. We read a couple before I realized just how much I can’t stand them. My poor little guy is bummed because he likes them, but I just cannot handle any more of that kind of book. At all. There is so much goodness in kids’ books!

Wow! You’re reading a lot right now! How do you find the time? I haven’t ever read most of these-but they sound good. One of the things I miss the most is a library. They are truly one of the greatest blessings of American life!

I am a slow reader so some of these are books I’ve been working on for awhile now.
And it will be another while before I finish them.
But I do read at the kids’ piano lessons (a few hours each week) and while my younger son has some therapy sessions each week as I’m out of the house for both the piano and the therapy. It’s a little reprieve from the fast-paced life!

Love to see an avid reader and I am envious because I have really forced myself to go beyond where I’m comfortable with reading besides the Bible! My Kindle has been great to help open doors and grant me the ability to read several books at a time! (I was a terrible reader as a kid.)
Thanks for sharing your treats!

Hi Kimberly! Well, it’s not *exactly* that I’m an avid reader…don’t get me wrong, I do love to read. It’s more that I read slowly anymore and so I get books, but then struggle to get them finished. I start more than 1 book at a time. I really need to cut back to just a couple and then finish one!
I’m glad you’ve found a way to make reading more enjoyable for you - it really is such a great tool!

Any of the children’s books grab me quickly since I am a retired teacher and public library children’s librarian, now a private tutor to primary aged kids. I also have a book review blog where children’s books are my emphasis.

ooh! I’d love to be able to check out your book review blog! Children’s books have so many great truths to share - and, as I know you know - if we can get them reading young, we can *keep* them reading when they’re older!
Thanks, Linda! Blessings!
