This week at The Loft, the topic is trust. I really struggled with this because sometimes when things break - like trust - it can be really hard to move on from that damage. Over the past couple of years, though, God has been working on my trust in various areas of my life.
This isn’t going to be a lengthy or lofty post. In fact, I’m going to share the one thing that has really been on my heart lately as it relates to trust.
See, my whole concept of trust was broken about a year ago. It is so hard when other people’s decisions so directly impact our lives that their poor decision bring us pain.
I’ve lived in that spot for a long time. I’ve camped out in my own valley of the shadow of death - it has been that difficult for me.
I went to a conference in early September and the speaker was talking about the need to trust God even when we don’t understand what He is doing. She had one small sentence that really hit home for me as I working on moving myself out of the valley.
And that’s what I want to share with you - the one sentence that pierced my heart
Dare to trust God first.
That’s it. Five small words. She issued the challenge and it came, for me, at a time when I needed to be sure that my trust was properly aligned.
What I took away, personally, was that I can trust others and they may or may not let me down.
Having our trust attached to the wrong people or to the wrong ideas can hurt us.
But if my trust is in God, then even if others let me down, I know that God is going to remain faithful.
Daring to trust God gives us the opportunity to keep our eyes focused on the one important thing - what God has planned for our lives.

Becky, this is stunning. Don’t you just love how God sends a word to us exactly when we need it? Dare to trust God first. I love that. The verse I thought of when I read you post is 2 Timothy 2:13. I’ve claimed it over and over….when we are faithless, God is faithful. Bless you, friend. I love being a part of The Loft with you!

Trust is such a tricky thing when we’ve been burned by others. We want to trust again, but our heart seems damaged from the broken trust. And then along comes God with these 5 words for my situation. “Dare to trust Me first,” and my focus comes back around to where it should be - trusting God first and letting Him lead to renewed trust in other humans who are as broken as I am!
One of my favorite verses that I claim again and again is Psalm 27:13 - “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Then someone else, knowing my situation, reminded me to keep reading for verse 14: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” I’m so glad to have this precious time with you at The Loft!

Trust God first. Good solid advice, but I would like to add one more thing: Trust God first and always. He is faithful is His faithfulness. Those who trust Him know Him by name and those who know Him by name will never be disappointed. Good writing. Good truth. Never apologize for brevity. Most times it is perfect in its truth. God is so faithful to us and He loves us so much! Thank you for your encouraging post - I am at a time when I need to trust the Lord with regards to my next steps as a writer, and for financial provision. Thank you again for sharing Rebekah!

Thanks for sharing your experience on trust, Rebekah. Learning to trust again is hard, but so essential, because others will let us down, just as we will also let others down. One thing that has helped me a lot in learning to trust others again is the fact that God continues to trust us no matter how many times we let him down. We fail him, but he trusts us. And he trusts with the most important things of all-of being his witnesses, his salt, and his light. Even knowing we will fail, yet he trusts us. So how can we do any less? And isn’t it amazing sometimes how the smallest things can get through to us? Thank the Lord for that! I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone at the loft better!
