All is Peace

It’s an unseasonably cool July evening when we can have the windows and doors wide open and let the soft breeze flow through the house. Outside I can hear the crickets, sometimes a bull frog down by the creek, occasionally a few other wild animals. The kids are tucked into their beds, the dogs have settled for the night and all is peace.

At the other end of the couch is the most beautiful part of the night. My husband has his Bible out and is having his devotions. Occasionally he will offer up a comment or a thought about what he is reading.

I wish I could tell you why it’s such a precious moment, sometimes it is just that special to see someone with their Bible.

But it’s more than just special, it’s sacred. A man with his Bible, learning more about his Jesus.

I am a ‘recovering perfectionist’ and for a long time I wanted to convey my life as perfect because that’s what I thought I needed to do. God helped me break through the need for perfection, and to grasp hold of the moment where all is peace.

It took me stepping way outside my box to be in a place where I can say that for tonight, for this moment, all is peace.

I don’t have a long-term plan; I barely have a plan for tomorrow and that’s so unlike me.

But that’s the beauty of God’s transforming power - He can take what had been our weaknesses and He can take the mess that our lives can be, but when we fall back on Him, when we spend time seeking Him, then all is peace.
